JAIN TEMPLE, SULTHAN BATHERY
The sulthan bathery jain temple is believed to have been built in 13th century. A unique feature is the rather checkered history of the temple which first served as a shrine, next as a centre of commercial trade and finally,as the ammunition store of battery of tippusulthan’s army.
JAIN TEMPLE RUINS
Apart from sulthan bathery jain temple, there are other significant jain remnants in wayanad. The temples at punchavayal and puthenangadi are the best known of these. With their beautifully carved pillars now partly ruined, and the area rather derelict, these sites exude a peculiar air of mystery. Listed on national heritage site.
PAZHASI RJA
Wayanad, a forest region mainly settled by the tribals in the 19th century was one of the active theaters of anti-British struggle in the malabar province under the english east india company. the local raja of wayand better known as the pazhassi raja was the leader and symbol of the popular resistance in this region over a decade.
PAZHASSI TOMB
the memorial of veera pazhassi raja the lion of kerala is situated at mananthavady, wayanad. the small structure nearby houses a collection of memorabilia.
WAYANAD HERITAGE MUSEUM
One of the best heritage museum in kerala, it houses artifacts and belongings of the various tribes of the land.
Excavations at various points around the foot of the ambukuthi hills, in wayanad, have unearthed a distinctive series of ancient burial vaults commonly called muniyara. Remnants of stone age tools and pottery found within these cellars are now displayed at the wayand heritage museum.
